I'm attempting to bring back my favorite livejournal meme. I think only about three people read this journal, so I don't see it going anywhere, but it's fun to try. :)

Since you don’t keep a very personal blog, this questions are all about bits of yourself that show up in your writing.

1. You write a lot of characters who value doing things the old ways - cooking from scratch, repairing their own cars, gardening, etc. I suspect they’re inheriting this trait from you. What do you like to do yourself that is normally automated or outsourced?
   
   
   
2. Surprise! A network executive wants you to pick out a book to make into a movie or TV miniseries. You’ll get to be showrunner, with final say on all decisions. What book do you choose? Tell us a little about what the final product would look like.
   
   
   
3. I’ve enjoyed reading about your characters facing ethical dilemmas, especially Aidan, who has a strong sense of his own personal ethics.
   
   I recently learned from juli that there are three broad approaches to how people figure out the ethical thing to do when they have to make a decision. They might all come to the same conclusion (Don’t tell a lie.) but they use different reasoning to get there:
   • Consequentliasts select the ethical action based on the results it will have. (Don’t tell a lie, it will hurt people.)
   • Virtuists select the ethical action based on their virtues and the kind of person they want to be (Don’t tell a lie, you want to be trustworthy.)
   • Deontologists believe in rules and duties (Don’t tell a lie, lying is just wrong).
   Of course, each person may disagree on what results they want, or what kind of person they want to be, or what their duties are.
   
   Do you have a clear sense of which philosophy Aidan follows? (He seems to me like a deontologist, a guy with a lot of duty and honor sort of stuff going on.) Do you have a clear sense of which philosophy you follow?
   
   
   
4. Are you the kind of author who sits down and decides what your characters will do, or the kind of author who feels like their characters have minds of their own and are telling you what they’re up to, and you have to make sense of it and write it down?
   
   
5. What is your favorite speculative fiction TV show? We mostly hear about which ones are annoying you at the moment. :) What's the awesomest thing about it?

I, uh, you're very smart and there's a lot of things I wanted to hear you talk about and here are eight questions. Sorry! You can skip three of them and just answer the five least annoying, if you'd like. :)

1. Contrary to the stereotype of all English professors merely biding their time in academics while they work on the Great American Novel, it seems like professoring is actually the thing you want to do. But if a mysterious woman carrying a briefcase of unmarked large bills offered to pay you a lot of money to spend a couple years writing something(s) you really cared about, anything your heart desires, what would it be?
   
   
2. Are there particular foods, places, activities, or other happy childhood memories you have that you’re looking forward to introducing WCN to?
   
   
3. What is the penguins’ secret master plan?
   
   
4. If you published a cookbook (ideally including recipes for Peep-based weapons of mass sugar and possibly the world's most amazing roasted potatoes), what would the silly chapter titles be?

6. What is a book that is always happy-making to reread?
   
   
7. How do you know when you’re in love with someone?
