Snow photos
This year, due to polar outflow shenanigans, we got almost a meter of snow! I haven't seen that much snow in decades, it was amazing.
Getting home to the island as the snow starts.
Theoretically, there's a road around here somewhere. (We had to have a tow truck haul our car back onto the road twice.)
There's something hilarious about animals trying really hard to look at the snow on their noses.
Cozy house. We ate lots of snow with maple syrup, arbutus-bark tea, or booze poured over. I worked from home for a week; there was absolutely no way to get down the mountain.
Snow in the moonlight. I was surprised by how different the night felt, like the snow reflected enough light it never got entirely dark. It added to the feeling of being outside time somehow: not going to work (or anywhere else!), night not quite falling, all the familiar places unrecognizable.
The woods.
Tiny icicle. It mostly didn't warm up enough for water to flow and refreeze as icicles, but this one formed in front of one of the car's headlights.
Blue sky. Snow beginning to melt. Colour coming back into the world.

Eventually the roads were clear, but not our long, steep, mountainous shared driveway, so I parked the car all the way down on the road and had to hike up and down the hill over slippery, increasingly grubby snow every morning and evening to get to work, which was considerably less enchanting.
I own three pairs of shoes: silly wobbly boots with impressive heels, a pair of those individual toe shoes that feel like walking barefoot, and comfy open hiking sandals. They are all terrible in a meter of snow! I made the mistake of wearing the Tall Wobble Boots one of the first days I had to go down the hill to get to the car. Every day after that, I was doing it on a mildly sprained ankle. :)
I really need a decent pair of boots!
