2022 Colour Journal Part 1

I keep a colour journal. Every-day-ish I answer each of a list of questions about my day went with a colour. At the end of the year, I put all the colours in a row and admire them, look for patterns, and wish I had a way to make a scarf out of them. 2022 was chaotic, and "every-day-ish" turned out to be only 75 days.

The most interesting and fun are the colours that describe the protean world: the sea, the sky, the forest. That's another post.

This post is the subjective colours, the colours that try to document my own experience of each day. It's been hard to come up with questions that are 1) answerable with a colour, 2) that colour is different on different days, 3) say something interesting about the day.

	1. Pick a random colour I just picked an arbitrary colour each day, any colour that I kind of felt like that day. Are there any patterns here? Darker and grey in winter, paler and greener in spring and summer. Does that mean anything? Who knows?
	2. What colour is a current art project? You can see a few different projects cycle through, and I like that! Major flaw in this question: both cut-paper projects and "no project at the moment" are black. Whoops. Maybe I'll do "no project" as white this year. Highlights include: sewing a dress forjuli at the beginning of the year, designing a mural of a newt-island with a forest growing on its back (green band) for a contest, a different mural of a baku (in the black somewhere) for a different contest. I was not selected to paint any murals this year, but I had fun and want to enter more mural design contests.
	3. What colour is a residue card that describes today? juli made the Residue Cards with the help of an AI, back before AIs were quite as good at image generation as they are now. The images capture a sort of dreamlike imagery that underlies related images on the internet. I pick one each day that seems like it corresponds with the mood of the day somehow. Except I misplaced my deck a short while into the year and had to stop. I don't know how to interpret this one, but it was fun.
	What colour is something I dreamt about? Black if I didn't remember a dream in the morning. Not really a lot of pattern here. I dream about a lot of greyish things?
	What colour are my clothes? I am a lazygoth, and wear black shoes, black pants, a black t-shirt or button up shirt, and a black hat except for very special occasions. So this question is kind of "which days was something so weird happening I dressed uncharacteristically?" I believe both special occasions here I was wearing a formal Mongolian-style shirt juli got me, black with small white dots and green piping trim, but I marked it as green once and dark grey once. It's a really great shirt. I know there were a few more special occasions this year - a pride parade, a dance, holidays - but I don't seem to have journalled those days.
	What colour scarf am I wearing? The one piece of colourful clothing I do wear is, sometimes, a scarf. I definitely feel like there's a "right" scarf for the day, which I grab off a rack by the front door. The green scarf is the warm one, which is why it's at the beginning and end of the year but not in the middle. The gold scarf is a very festive sparkly one of juli 's I wore to an Easter church service. The purple scarf is also juli 's, I wore it a couple times because I was doing a difficult thing off-island and wanted to feel like she was with me. My favourite scarf this year was the dark grey keffiyah-style one. (It may look like a black scarf is my favourite, but there are three black ones, so I think the dark grey one won.)

Feeling eh on most of these questions. The art one is actually interesting, and the random colour one showed some kind of pattern, surprisingly.

I haven't thought of any better questions (please tell me if you have any ideas!), so I'm going to keep these another year.

What predominant colour did you eat [modifier], i.e. for breakfast / lunch / dinner, for your first snack of the day, or colour did you drink [time]? Some people might prefer to record a beige breakfast every day, while some people might prefer to pick the likeliest moment for varied colours.
