We saw a few minutes of aurora last night before the clouds covered it! It was a tough night for auroras - the moon was only two nights past full, and there was heavy ocean-haze, but it was pretty great anyway. :)

Date: 2014-02-20 07:17 am (UTC)^^ NOAA projections of where the aurora is above (updated every couple of minutes). It is usually best between midnight and 1AM, when we're directly opposite the sun.
Occasionally at this latitude, we are lucky enough that it will be directly overhead, but usually it stops short a little north of us, so you have to look north and toward the horizon. Light pollution does interfere when you are trying to see it on the horizon (as well as buildings, trees, clouds etc to the north of your position).
It's easy for Juli and I to drive five minutes to a dark quiet harbor, so we've been seeing it a lot this year... harder to judge whether it's worth driving out of the city on a worknight, though.
Looks like you guys have as much rain as we do. Probably nobody gets to see it tonight. :(
