A nice thing about today:

A praying mantis was hanging on to the outside of the window screen this afternoon. Whenjuli walked past it to get the mail, it waved its legs ferociously at her. It was adorablevery scary. juli is probably a little large to be eaten by even a very fierce praying mantis, though.

It was annoying to have a praying mantis racketing around in the house, but I am really quite fond of them as they are dedicated pest-eaters. So even if they are in human territory, I will go to considerable lengths in order to rescue them and transfer them safely outside.
